Silver Bowl Campground

Silver Bowl Campground sits near the shore of Silver Lake in a remote area of the Lassen National Forest. The campground is 39 miles northwest of Susanville, and, as the crow flies, 13 miles north of Lake Almanor. Visitors to the area appreciate its off-the-beaten-path location. Fishing is good in Silver Lake and nearby Caribou Lake. An unimproved boat ramp is available at Silver Lake. A nature trail circles the lake. Other trails lead west into the Caribou Wilderness where hikers find dozens of small lakes within a mile or two of the campground.

Silver Bowl Campground offers 18 nicely forested campsites for RVs, trailers, and tents. All the campsites are first-come, first-served. Well water is available from hand pumps.

Attractions near Silver Bowl Campground: Silver Lake has picnic sites along its shore. Boating and fishing are enjoyable activities at the lake. A nature trail leads around the lake's shore. Hike nearby trails to Caribou Lake and lakes in the Caribou Wilderness. Make the 16-mile drive north to Lassen Volcanic National Park's Butte Lake.

Attractions and Activities

Visitors to Silver Bowl Campground are close enough to Lassen Volcanic National Park to take in all of its great attractions.

  • Visit beautiful Manzanita Lake for fishing and non-motorized boating.
  • Make the exhilarating 5-mile hike to the summit of Lassen Peak.
  • Join in Ranger-led Programs, including nature walks, campfire programs, Starry Night ranger-led programs, astronomy programs, Lassen Dark Sky Festival, (August TBA, 2020), and snowshoe hikes.
  • Drive out to Butte Lake and walk the 1.6-mile Cinder Cone Interpretive Trail or hike to the summit of Prospect Peak (3.1 miles one-way).
  • Make the Auto Tour of the park, stopping at sites such as Sulfur Works, Bumpass Hell Overlook, Devastated Area, and Chaos Crags.
  • Spend time in Loomis Museum, which features historic photos of Lassen's last eruption.
  • Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center has exhibits about the park's volcanic activity. The Visitor Center includes a nice cafe and a gift shop.

  2. Avoid spreading pests by purchasing firewood locally.
  3. Dogs must be kept on leash and attended at all times. Dogs are not allowed on National Park trails.
