Hendy Woods State Park offers a peaceful retreat from urban life. Less that 3 hours north of the Bay Area in Mendocino County, Henry Woods is a wonderful weekend camping spot for those looking for a quiet setting among beautiful redwoods. Hendy Woods is 8 miles northwest of Boonville and 22 miles from the coast via Highway 128.

Hendy Woods State Park Campground is seaprated into two loops - Wildcat and Azalea. Within the 2 loops are 85 campsites which can accommodate RVs, trailers, and tents. In addition, the park has 3 cabins which may be rented. They also have a Hike & Bike campsite.

Hendy Woods State Park is home to groves of towering coast redwoods, fern-lined creeks, and gentle forest creatures. Visitors to Hendy Woods State Park Campground find many wonderful places to explore.

  • Picnic beside the Navarro River, watching for birds and other wildlife.
  • Visit the two groves of redwoods, some trees standing more than 300 feet.
  • Look for black-tailed deer, raccoons, cottontails, gray foxes, and chipmunks.
  • Hike the 1.6-mile Big Hendy Trail and visit Hendy Hermit's hut.
  • Enjoy Junior Ranger nature walks and campfire programs.
  • Stop in the Visitor Center.
  • When water levels are safe, swim in the Navarro River during the summer, canoe and kayak in the late winter and early spring.

Key Hendy Woods State Park Campground Regulations

  1. Wood collecting is not allowed, including twigs and leaves. Purchase firewood locally to avoid brining in invasive pests.
  2. Generators may only be operated sparingly from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
  3. Dogs must be kept on leash. They are not permitted on trails and must be kept in a tent or vehicle at night. They may never be left unattended.
  4. Fishing is not allowed in the state park.

Opening and closing dates of campgrounds are only estimates, usually dependent on weather conditions. Not all campsites can accommodate trailers or RVs of all lengths.

In order to prevent the spread of invasive insects, obtain firewood locally.
