Ronald W. Caspers Wilderness Park Campground
Ronald W. Caspers Wilderness Park Campground is within an 8,000-acre preserve operated by Orange County Parks in the western Santa Ana Mountains. Caspers Wilderness Park is 8 miles east of San Juan Capistrano off Highway 74. Visitors to the park enjoy fertile valleys shaded by groves of oak and sycamore along with the whisper of gently flowing streams. Around the park visitors find nature trails, mountain bike and horseback riding trails, and an old windmill. On Sundays there are regular ranger-led hikes.
Ronald W. Caspers Wilderness Park Campground includes the main camping site, Live Oak Grove Campground with 42 campsites for RVs, trailers and tents. Nearby is Ortega Flats Campground with an additional 13 campsites that include electric hook-ups. The park also features several Group Camping Areas and its popular Starr Mesa Equestrian Campground. Parties of 17 or more must use a group site.
Orange County Parks Notice: "Due to insufficient well water supply, the domestic water lines throughout all campgrounds and restroom/shower facilities will be shut off for the foreseeable future. Please bring potable water. Portable restrooms and handwash stations will be available throughout the park. We apologize for any inconvenience." (8/2023)

Caspers Wilderness Park Campground
Caspers Wilderness Park offers two group tent camping areas: San Juan Meadow Group Area with 4 sites and Owl/Quail Group Campground. Each site at San Juan Meadow can accommodate up to 50-60 people and 20-24 vehicles. Owl Group Site can hold 50 people and 20 vehicles. Maximum vehicle length for all sites is 20 feet.

Starr Mesa Equestrian Campground
Starr Mesa Equestrian Campground has 21 campsites for campers with horses. Half are available for reservation, the others are first-come, first-served. Facilities are similar to standard campsites. Starr Mesa does have pull-through parking for vehicles up to 70 feet and a corral for each campsite.
