Moore Creek Group Campground

Moore Creek Group Campground is in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest, along the McCloud River Arm of Shasta Lake. The campground is usually reserved by groups, but in the summer on holiday weekends it can be opened for first come, first served camping. The campground is about 4 miles north of Hirz Bay launch ramp.

Moore Creek Group Campground has 12, well-spaced campsites which can accommodate groups up to 90 people. However, there are no group cooking or campfire facilities. Campsites have partial shade. They can be used for RVs, trailer, and tents. For groups using the campground, be sure to read the note below about the Locked Entry Gates.

The reservations website cautions: "Reservation holders must contact Shasta Recreation Office at least 1 week prior to arrival for a combination code to access campground; failure to do so could lead to a locked facility without access for a night or longer and no refund."



General Camping Information

Opening and closing dates of campgrounds are only estimates, usually dependent on weather conditions. Not all campsites can accommodate trailers or RVs of all lengths. If using a reservation website, check to be sure your vehicles will fit in the parking space for your campsite.

Shasta Lake is one of the most popular recreation lakes in the state. Groups staying at Moore Creek Group Campground are along a quiet arm of the lake while still close to launch ramps and other popular destinations.

Key Moore Creek Group Campground Regulations

  1. No amplified sound is permitted at the campground.
  2. Bears: Store all food and similar items in bear-proof lockers, not in vehicles.
  3. Dogs must be kept on leash and attended at all times. At night they must be kept in a vehicle or tent.
