Emigrant Group Campground

Emigrant Group Campground is on the south side of Stampede Reservoir in the Tahoe National Forest. The campground makes a great base for boating, fishing, waterskiing, hiking, OHV, and mountain biking. A boat launch ramp is nearby. A short drive south leads to Boca and Prosser reservoirs. Fly fishing in the Little Truckee River is excellent.

Emigrant Group Campground is divided into 4 group campsites. Woodsman and Prospector can accommodate 50 people each. Rancher and Trapper hold up to 25 people each. Horseshoe pits are found at the Woodsman site. A general store is located nearby in Logger Campground.

General Camping Information

Opening and closing dates of campgrounds are only estimates, usually dependent on weather conditions. Not all campsites can accommodate trailers or RVs of all lengths. If using a reservation website, check to be sure your vehicles will fit in the parking space for your campsite.

In order to prevent the spread of invasive insects, obtain firewood locally.

Accessible Sites

Designated Accessible sites are usually reserved for people with disabilities who have a vehicle displaying an accessible parking placard or license plate

Attractions and Activities

Stampede Reservoir is one of three reservoirs in the area that are popular for boating and fishing. The other two, Boca and Prosser, are closer to Interstate 80. Groups who stay at Emigrant Group Campground can take advantage of all the lakes.

  • Find excellent boating, waterskiing, and fishing at Stampede Reservoir.
  • Try your skill at fly fishing in the Little Truckee River.
  • Go 4-wheeling on OHV routes abound around Boca and Prosser reservoirs.
  • Hike or cycle the 15-mile long Commemorative Overland Emigrant Trail to Donner Camp Picnic Area.
  • Visit Donner Camp - site of the Donner family's winter camp.

Key Emigrant Group Campground Regulations

  1. Obtain firewood locally to prevent bringing in pests.
  2. All campfires must be attended or completely extinguished, and fires must be in designated fire rings.
  3. Dogs must be kept on leash and attended at all times.
  4. Food and all scented items must be stored in bear-proof lockers.
  5. OHV vehicles must be trailered in the campground. No OHV use is allowed in the campground.
  6. Quiet Time is from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM. No generators may be operated during quiet time.
