Black Butte Lake Campgrounds

Black Butte Lake Campgrounds are on the shore of Black Butte Lake in Tehama and Glenn counties, 8 miles west of Orland. The lake and campgrounds are operated by the Army Corps of Engineers. Black Butte Lake covers a surface area of 4,460 acres, extends 7 miles, and has 40 miles of shoreline.

Black Butte Lake is popular for boating, waterskiing, and fishing. The recreation area around the lake features over 20 miles of mountain biking, hiking, and nature trails with many scenic vistas. Horseback riding is also a favorite activity. Black Butte Lake can be very hot in the summer. Most visitors prefer spring or fall.

The two Black Butte Lake Campgrounds - Buckhorn Campground and Orland Buttes Campground - are along the shore of the lake, Buckhorn on the west side, Orland Buttes on the east. Both campgrounds can accommodate RVs, trailers, and tents. Buckhorn Campground has 93 campsites, including 5 walk-in sites and a Group Campsite.

Orland Buttes Campground has 35 campsites. There is also a Group Campsite. Boat launch ramps are available at either site.

Reservations for Black Butte Lake Campgrounds
Reservations Reservations for Buckhorn Campground and Orland Buttes Campground are available for camping dates from April through September. At other times of the year campsites at Buckhorn Campground are first-come, first-served.
Booking Window: Reservations can be made up to 240 days in advance of arrival date.

Black Butte Lake Campgrounds - Group Campsites

Buckhorn Campground's group site can accommodate up to 80 people and 40 vehicles.
Fee: $200 per night

Orland Buttes Campground's group site can accommodate up to 50 people and 20 vehicles. The site includes a gazebo shading some of the picnic tables.
Fee: $130 per night

Campers at Black Butte Lake Campgrounds near Orland have a number of interesting attractions worth visiting.

Key Black Butte Lake Campgrounds Regulations

  1. Entrance gates close at 10:00 PM April through September.
  2. Quiet Hours are from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM.
  3. Pets must be on leash and attended at all times. Dogs are not allowed on the beach.
  4. To avoid spreading invasive pests, obtain firewood locally.

Opening and closing dates of campgrounds are only estimates, usually dependent on weather conditions. Not all campsites can accommodate trailers or RVs of all lengths. If using a reservation website, check to be sure your vehicles will fit in the parking space for your campsite.
