Selection of the Best Campgrounds is based on a combination of campground facilities, campground ambiance, and the proximity of outstanding recreational opportunities. The ratings are intended to serve as a general guide and may not always concur with the interests and experiences of others.


Eastern Sierra Campgrounds

In southern Inyo County there are two group campgrounds - one at Whitney Portal Campground and the other at Lone Pine Campground. Group camps are also available at Furnace Creek Campground in Death Valley National Park.

The single equestrian campground is found at Horseshoe Meadow Equestrian Campground near Cottonwood Lakes.

Three campgrounds are designated as trailhead camps. These are intended as one-night stays for people heading off backpacking into the wilderness the next morning or just returning from a backpacking trip.
